This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use bestdealbarristerrobes.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what control you have over it. We handle personal information under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Who we are
Best Deal Barrister Robes, 433 William Street, London, Ontario, Canada, operates this website and is responsible for the personal information described here. For any privacy question or request, use our contact page.
What we collect
When you place an order: your name, email address, phone number, billing address, delivery address, the items you bought including sizes and fit options, and your order history with us.
When you pay: your card payment is processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number, expiry date, or security code. We receive the card type, the last four digits, and whether the payment succeeded.
When you create an account: your name, email address, saved addresses, and an encrypted version of your password. We never store your password in readable form.
When you contact us: your name, email address, and whatever you write in your message or in emails you send us.
Automatically, when you browse: your IP address, browser type and version, device type, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit. Our web server also keeps standard access logs.
Why we use it
- To take, make, and deliver your order, and to email you order confirmations and tracking details.
- To answer your questions and provide support before and after a purchase.
- To handle returns, exchanges, and refunds.
- To take payment and to help prevent fraudulent transactions and chargebacks.
- To keep the sales and tax records that Canadian law requires us to keep.
- To keep the website secure, working, and free of abuse.
We use your information for these purposes only. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade it.
Marketing emails
Order confirmations, shipping notices, and replies to your questions are service messages, and we send them because you bought from us or wrote to us. We only send promotional email if you have asked for it. Every promotional email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to stop by email at any time. This follows Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
Cookies
A cookie is a small file the site stores in your browser. We use these:
- Shopping cookies set by WooCommerce, so your cart remembers what you added and checkout works. Without these the store cannot function.
- Account cookies, set only if you log in, so you stay signed in while you browse.
- Security cookies set by Stripe on the checkout page, used to detect fraudulent payments.
We do not currently run advertising cookies or third-party analytics on this site. If that changes, we will update this policy first. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but the cart and checkout will not work without the shopping cookies.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the companies that help us run the store, and only with what they need to do their job:
- Stripe processes card payments and screens them for fraud. Stripe is a payment processor with its own privacy policy at stripe.com/en-ca/privacy.
- Our courier receives your name, delivery address, and phone number so your parcel can be delivered and tracked.
- Our web host stores the website and its database on secure servers on our behalf.
- Our email provider delivers order and support emails.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a court order, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
Information stored outside Canada
Some of our service providers, including Stripe, process and store information on servers in the United States. When personal information is held in another country, it may be accessible to the courts and law enforcement agencies of that country under its laws. We use established providers with contractual protections in place, but we want you to know this before you order.
How long we keep it
- Order and payment records: seven years after the transaction, because Canadian tax law requires it.
- Account details: until you ask us to close your account.
- Contact form messages and support emails: up to two years, then deleted.
- Server access logs: a short rolling period set by our host, usually a few weeks.
How we protect it
The whole site runs over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Access to the store’s admin area is limited to people who need it, and is protected by strong passwords. Card details never reach our servers. No system is perfect, but we review our security regularly and act quickly if something looks wrong.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you can:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate or incomplete.
- Ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep.
- Withdraw your consent to a use of your information, subject to legal and contractual limits. For example, we still have to keep records of a completed sale.
- Ask how we handle your information and expect a clear answer.
Send your request through our contact page and we will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so that we do not release your information to someone else.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca or by phone at 1-800-282-1376.
Children
This store is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
Our guides sometimes link to law society and government websites. We do not control those sites and this policy does not cover them. Read their own privacy policies before giving them information.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be explained here rather than made quietly.
