Best Deal Barrister Robes supplies Canadian barristers with court-ready robes, gowns, waistcoats, wing-collar shirts, and tabs for call-to-the-bar ceremonies and everyday practice. Every piece is cut to traditional legal proportions in quality wool barathea and priced fairly, so new calls can outfit themselves without overpaying.

Why we exist

Court dress is one of the few things a new lawyer has to buy before they earn anything. The bills land in the same month as bar admission fees, licensing costs, and a suit for the ceremony. For a long time the options were a rental counter or a supplier charging heritage prices for a garment worn a handful of times a year.

We built this shop around a simpler idea: make the pieces properly, sell them direct, and skip the markup that comes from a storefront and a middleman. A new call should be able to own their robe rather than borrow one.

What we make

We keep the range deliberately small, and everything in it belongs to the same outfit:

  • The barrister robe — the open gown worn over everything else, cut to traditional proportions.
  • The waistcoat — single-breasted, fully lined, with pockets sewn to be used rather than sewn shut.
  • The wing-collar shirt — the base layer the tabs clip to.
  • Tabs — the white neckwear that finishes the collar.
  • The call-to-bar package — all four pieces together, which works out $152 cheaper than buying them one at a time.

Nothing here is repurposed formalwear. A barrister waistcoat sits differently under a robe than a wedding vest does, and a wing-collar shirt has to hold tabs without gaping. We build for those specifics.

How we fit

Court dress is worn for long days, sitting down as often as standing up, so fit matters more than it does for something worn once at a reception. Our garments come in men’s and women’s cuts drawn from separate patterns, not one unisex block resized in both directions, and each cut is offered in slim, regular, and full fit.

Everything is made to order in the size you choose, which is why delivery takes three to four weeks rather than two days. Our size guide walks through the measurements, and if you are between sizes, message us through our contact page before you order. We would rather spend ten minutes on your measurements than send you through a return.

Where we are

We are based in London, Ontario, and ship across Canada. Every order travels by trackable courier with a tracking number emailed the day it leaves us. Questions get a reply within one business day, from someone who knows what the garments are and how they are meant to sit.

Beyond the shop

Working out what to wear to your call is its own small research project, and the answer changes by province. So we write the guides we wished existed: what goes under the robe, how the layers go on in order, and what each province and law society expects. They are free to read and you do not have to buy anything to use them.
